2026: All 34 Chichibu Pilgrimage Sites—the “Year of the Horse Grand Opening,” Held Once Every 12 Years

Year of the Horse Grand Exhibition

Period: March 18, 2026–November 30, 2026

What is the "Year of the Horse Grand Exhibition"?...

The “Year of the Horse General Temple Exhibition” features the opening of the main halls at 34 temples (Chichibu Pilgrimage Sites) located within Chichibu City.
Since the statues are unveiled all at once during the Year of the Horse—which occurs once every 12 years—this event is known as the “General Unveiling.”
At the 34 temples of the Chichibu Pilgrimage, anyone can pay their respects directly to the statue of Kannon.
This grand exhibition is a traditional event that has been held since the Edo period, and because it offers a rare opportunity to view numerous statues of Kannon that are not normally on display, the Chichibu region is said to be a "power spot."

What Are the Chichibu Pilgrimage Sites?

The Chichibu Pilgrimage Sites refer to the 34 temples located in the Chichibu region of Saitama Prefecture.
Dating back to the Kamakura period, this is a Kannon pilgrimage route (a series of temples dedicated to Kannon) with a history spanning 790 years.
